Mustard in Berlin, 10/03/2017

Es war ein später Frühlingsabend und die innere Unruhe führte mich dazu, endlich mal in das "Madame Claude" zu gehen und mich von den Bands des Abends überraschen zu lassen. Leider war ich etwas spät da und habe nur "Mustard" gesehen, aber gelohnt hat es sich trotzdem.

Das Madame Claude ist ein ehemaliges Bordell, das zu einer Bar umfunktioniert wurde und nun verschiedenen Bands regelmäßig eine Bühne bietet. Das Interessante ist, dass die Decke mit Möbeln dekoriert ist und generell einige Dinge kopfstehen. Außerdem gibt es einen Tischkicker. Nun aber zu den Bands.

Am Anfang spielten die "Black Lennons". Zwar konnte ich sie nicht live erleben, aber ich verlinke hier ein Video, fall sich jemand einen Eindruck von der Band machen will. Kleiner Spoiler: Sie sind nicht wortwörtlich die schwarzen Lennons. Es scheint, als würden die Künstler interessante Performances haben.

"Mustard" klang ebenfalls etwas psychedelisch, doch mit einer Portion Sommer und guter Laune aka. Folk und Electro. Bei einigen Liedern wird man wohl nur Spanisch verstehen, was daran liegt, dass manchmal auf Spanisch gesungen wird. Die Band stammt, laut ihrer Seite, aus Madrid und hat einige Zeit in Brighton verbracht. Was man vielleicht bemängeln könnte, ist der ständige hohe Gesang des Sängers, denn seine tiefere Singstimme klingt ebenfalls recht gut. Natürlich will ich euch die Musik nicht vorenthalten, also hier ein Lied mit Video:

Der Auftritt der drei Jungs war angenehm, sie kamen sehr sympathisch rüber. Anfangs haben sich die Gäste nicht getraut zu tanzen, hörten aber gespannt zu und wippten mit. Am Ende saß kaum jemand mehr und es wurde zu lateinamerikanischer Musik getanzt. Nach dem Konzert konnte man sich eine kleine EP bei der Band kaufen, was ich auch tat und nicht bereute. Fazit: "Mustard" sind eine Band, die schöne, sommerliche Musik spielen und live gut klingen. Vielleicht kann man sie bald auf Festivals und weiteren kleinen Club-Konzerten erleben. Desweiteren hat mich der Auftritt daran erinnert, dass man öfter mal in kleine Bars und Clubs gehen sollte, um sich die relativ unbekannten Bands anzuhören. Die Stimmung ist meistens recht locker und man kann viel Neues entdecken. Leider hatte ich mein Handy nicht dabei (ja, sowas passiert), deswegen konnte ich weder Fotos von der Band noch von der Location machen. Aber dafür gibt es ja das Internet.

Bands für den Sommer - NVDES

Auch wenn es momentan eher kalt ist, es regnet und manchmal sogar Hagel fällt, können wir uns ja trotzdem auf den Sommer freuen. Um die Stimmung anzuheizen, werde ich (versuchen) hin und wieder die ein oder andere Band vorzustellen, die euch hoffentlich zum Strahlen bringt.

Früher wurde an Stelle von "U" ein"V" geschrieben. Wieso? Im lateinischen hat man nicht wirklich einen Unterschied draus gemacht. Mittlerweile wird es wieder modisch, ein "U" durch ein "V" zu ersetzen. Zum Beispiel bei "CHVRCHES". Oder bei "NVDES". Um letztere soll es heute hier gehen.

Ich konnte die Band mal live in Berlin bei ihrem ersten Konzert erleben und fand die Stimmung und den Performance-Stil ganz gut, wenn nicht sogar "Unvergesslich". Es macht gute Laune und viele tanzten mit. Später schrieb ich die Band auf Facebook an, um herauszufinden, ob es demnächst eine E.P. geben würde, allerdings kam nie eine Antwort, also schrieb ich nicht sofort über die Band, weil ich beleidigt war. Mein Ego ist verheilt und die Zeit ist reif für etwas frische Musik.

Die Band an sich bestand zumindest bei der Live-Show aus zwei jungen Männern, die aus Los Angeles sind. Der Kopf dahinter ist Josh Ocean (sogar ein sommerlicher Name!). Ihr Stil ist etwas ausgefallen und laut, deswegen war Berlin als Ort der Premiere ganz gut gewählt, denn da passt sowas hin. Die Musik geht Richtung Indie-Pop und ist etwas psychedelisch. Glass Animals on a roof terrace two weeks ago in Berlin and this is a long title but that's your problem

Once upon a time, one of my favourite bands played a gig on a roof. It was a sweat-inducing show. Only because the sun shone relentlessly, of course. Everybody else was cool.

Glass Animals are one of those bands I always wanted to see live, but there were always some unexpected obstructions preventing it to happen. Until now. Or then. It’s been two weeks already.

We have this radio station called FluxFM here in Berlin that sometimes organises concerts on the roof terrace of its quarter. When they announced Glass Animals as one of their acts, it was clear to me: I will go there, even if I have to climb up the wall. Fortunately I didn't have to climb. My arms are pretty weak.

So it was a nice summer evening, cool people with sunglasses were chilling and we had a nice view of the city. Oh, and wonderful music as well.

The first song was “Gooey”, probably Glass Animals' best known. Then they played “Pools”, a catchy, tropical song but not as cool as “Walla Walla”. I just realised that “Walla” reminds me of “Walla, isch schör, Digga!” – something that some people say here in Berlin. Back to the song - that percussion! You just have to move and release your inner belly dancer.

The show took 40 minutes and Glass Animals also played some of their old stuff, like “Psylla”. I hope to see/hear them perform “Exxus” one day. I fucking love this song. And the video, though it’s a little special.

Maybe it comes unexpected, but I really enjoyed the show. And in a dark club with some colourful lights and a lot of smoke (from a smoke machine) the atmosphere of the songs would be even more emphasised.

The guys themselves seem to be pretty nice. I even got them to draw something into my idea book. So in case they read this: Thanks for the pictures & keep on making music for at least 20 years! Otherwise…

During the show Dave Bayley (I used to confuse it with “Baileys”) made compliments to the audience, like: “You all look very cool with your sunglasses. We've never played in front of such a cool crowd before.” And no, it wasn’t irony. He also recommended to us to get some ice cream. But I didn't.

Song Of The Month - April '14

Yeaaaaaah, it's spring. 
And it feels like summer, at least here in Berlin. Sunshine, the cold is away, free time because of holidays. The icing on the cake would be some summer music. Oh, hey, I found some. What a coincidence!

The chosen song comes from Cayucas. And they come from sunny California. If you listen to their music you will notice that they have this beach-touch: songs about love and the life at the coast and of course they play guitar. Also you can easily sing and dance along. Perfect music for playing volleyball or dancing at the beach.

Their songs aren't that new, but better late than never.''High School Lover'' is my favorite, though the Math Bishop Remix of ''East Coast Girl'' sounds pretty nice, too. Maybe the songs will make it on your summer-playlist as well.
